Privacy Policy

The short version

Gimme 7 has no accounts and asks you for no personal information. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no tracking of any kind, and it requests no permissions from your device. This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties.

The team names you type stay on your phone. The only thing the app sends us is which of the two languages it needs questions for.

What the app keeps on your device

All of the following is stored by the app on your device only. It is not sent to us and we cannot see it.

Team names you type

The app keeps up to the seven most recent names so you can reuse them next time. They are stored in the app's own local storage. You can delete them in the app, and uninstalling removes them.

The downloaded questions

Questions, answers and category names are cached so the game works without a connection. No personal information is part of that cache.

Teams, rounds and scores

Held in memory while you play and never written to storage or sent anywhere. They are gone when the app closes.

Your settings

Sound, vibration, language and the two display toggles are stored so the app opens the way you left it. Until you change one, it follows your device language.

How many games you have finished

A count of games played through to the final standings, plus which app version last showed the store's rating prompt and when. It exists so the app can offer that prompt at a decent moment and then leave you alone. It is a counter and two dates, with nothing about who you are, and it stays on the device.

Your device language

The app reads it to decide between English and French. That happens on the device and the value is not transmitted.

What the app sends over the internet

The app makes exactly two kinds of request, both to our own questions server, and both read-only: one asks whether the question set has changed, the other downloads it.

The only information those requests carry is a two-letter language code, en or fr. There is no account, no user identifier, no device or advertising identifier, no team name, no score and no game data of any kind. The server has no way to write anything, because it offers no such feature.

As with any request to any website, our server and the hosting provider that runs it necessarily see the connection's IP address and the standard technical information your device sends with the request. That is how the internet delivers a response and it cannot be avoided. Our own code neither logs nor stores it. See the sections on providers and on logs below.

What we do not collect

We collect none of the following, in the app or on this website:

• your name, email address, phone number or postal address
• location of any kind, precise or approximate
• contacts, calendars, photos, files, camera or microphone data
• health, fitness or financial information
• browsing or search history
• device identifiers, advertising identifiers or any other persistent identifier
• usage analytics, product events, session recordings or performance measurements
• crash logs collected by us
• purchases, in-app purchases or payment details

The app requests no system permissions at all, so it has no access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts or photos.

Tracking and advertising

The app contains no analytics, attribution, marketing or advertising software, and shows no ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites, we build no profiles, and we sell or share no personal information. Because none of that happens, the app never asks for permission to track you on iOS.

Children

Gimme 7 is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We knowingly collect personal data from nobody, children included. Question content is written for a family setting, but parents should judge whether it suits their household.

Providers who process data for us

Fly.io, questions server hosting

Runs the server the app downloads its questions from, in Paris, France (European Union). It handles the connection itself, which means it processes the IP address of every request.

Supabase, managed database

Stores the question set itself: questions, answers and category names, in Ireland (European Union). It holds no information about players, because no such information ever reaches it.

Vercel, this website

Serves the pages you are reading now. It processes the connection data inherent to that, such as the IP address of the request.

Apple and Google, app distribution and the rating prompt

If you install the app from the App Store or Google Play, your dealings with that store are covered by that company's privacy policy, not this one. Those platforms give developers aggregate statistics about downloads, and may collect diagnostics or crash reports themselves under their own terms. That collection is theirs, not ours, and we receive no personal data from it. After a finished game the app may also ask the store to show its own rating sheet: the sheet belongs to the platform, we are not told whether it appeared or what you did with it, and a review you choose to leave is published under that store's terms.

Logs and how long anything is kept

We keep no database of users, no request log of our own, and no record of who played what. There is nothing to retain because nothing is collected.

Our hosting providers keep their own short-lived infrastructure logs, which include IP addresses, so that the service can be kept running and protected from abuse. We do not use them to identify or profile anyone. Their retention is set by the provider under its own policy: we have not configured a longer period, and we do not copy those logs anywhere.

Everything the app stores on your device stays there until you delete it, and goes away when you uninstall the app.

Legal basis, for anyone in the European Union

Handling a request in order to send the questions your app asked for is necessary to provide the service you asked us for (Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR). Keeping the service available and protecting it from abuse rests on our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)). We ask for no consent because we run no tracking, advertising or analytics that would need it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability over personal data about you, and the right to complain to a data protection authority (in France, the CNIL). Write to privacy@gimme7.app and we will answer.

In practice there is almost nothing for us to act on: we hold no account, no identifier and no record that could be linked back to you, so we usually cannot locate any data about a given person, and we will tell you so plainly rather than ask you for identity documents. The data you can act on is on your device, and you can remove it yourself:

• delete saved team names in the app, during game setup
• uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your system settings, to remove everything it kept

Security

Traffic between the app and our server is encrypted with HTTPS. The server is read-only: it can serve questions and nothing else, which is also why a breach of it could not expose personal data. No system is perfectly secure, but there is very little here to lose.

Where data is handled

Our questions server runs in Paris, France (European Union) and the database behind it in Ireland (European Union), so the service itself sits entirely within the European Union. This website is served from its host's global network, so the request that loaded this page may have been handled by a server outside it. Where our providers transfer data outside the EU, they do so under the safeguards set out in their own data processing terms.

Changes to this policy

If what the app does with data changes, this page changes with it and the effective date at the top is updated. Significant changes will be described here rather than slipped in quietly.
